Meet Ellie

Hi, I’m Ellie, the person behind Shape Pilates. I’ve been teaching Pilates for over 17 years, working with both Reformer and mat Pilates. I help people of all ages and abilities feel stronger, more confident and comfortable in their bodies.

I’m Body Control Pilates qualified and have developed my teaching through years of working with different bodies, abilities and individual needs. I’ve also worked with people managing aches, niggles and previous injuries, adapting Pilates to help them move more comfortably and build strength. I believe Pilates should feel welcoming and achievable, whether you’re completely new to Pilates, returning after a break or have been practising for years.

I really enjoy working closely with people because no two people move in exactly the same way. In my 1-to-1 and 1-to-2 sessions, I can adapt the exercises and pace to suit you, so you get the most from each movement.

My approach is friendly, supportive and focused on helping you move well, build strength and feel good in your body. I want you to leave each session feeling like you’ve achieved something … and hopefully looking forward to the next one!

Why Shape Pilates?

“My back is always a bit sore.”
“My knee is bothering me.”
“I feel so stiff after sitting at my desk all day.”
“I find climbing the stairs harder than I used to.”
“I’ve just had a baby and want to get back to fitness.”

If any of this sounds familiar, then Reformer and Pilates could be a great place to start. With over 17 years’ teaching experience, I offer friendly, personalised Pilates where you’ll never feel lost in the crowd. Sessions are adapted to you, your ability and your goals, with plenty of guidance and support along the way.

Whether you’re completely new to Pilates or have been practising for years, you’ll feel welcome and comfortable from the start. I offer private and semi-private Reformer sessions, alongside mat Pilates, across two North Tyneside locations.

Is Pilates suitable for me?

Pilates can be a great option if you’re new to exercise, returning after a break, managing aches or niggles, or simply want to build strength and move more comfortably. I’ve worked with people of all ages and abilities over my 17+ years of teaching, including beginners, experienced clients and people with previous injuries. I’ll adapt the exercises and pace to suit you, so you feel supported and confident throughout your session.

Do I need previous Pilates experience?

Not at all. Beginners are very welcome, and I’ll guide you through the exercises and make sure you feel comfortable. If you’ve been practising Pilates for years, I can also adapt the sessions to give you more challenge.

What's the difference between mat and Reformer Pilates?

Mat Pilates uses your own body weight and a mat, with exercises focusing on strength, flexibility, control and posture. Reformer Pilates uses a machine with springs and resistance, giving you more options to support or challenge your body.

Should I choose 1-to-1 or 1-to-2?

Both offer a personalised experience. A 1-to-1 gives you my full attention, while a 1-to-2 is a great option if you’d like to share the session with a friend or family member.

What should I wear?

Wear something comfortable that you can move easily in. Clothes that fit fairly close to the body, particularly around your upper body, make it easier for me to see your alignment and make any adjustments to your technique when needed.

Most importantly, wear what you feel comfortable in. There’s no judgement about bodies or shapes at Shape Pilates — just come as you are.

What equipment do I need?

Nothing! I provide the Reformer, mats and all the equipment and accessories you’ll need for each session. Just bring yourself and wear something comfortable that you can move easily in.

How do I book?

You can get in touch with me using the contact form on the website or call me on 07967202012 to find out about availability and book your session or class. I’ll be happy to help you choose the option that’s right for you.

Is Pilates just for Women?

No absolutely not, men are more than welcome at the studio! Pilates is really beneficial for men, improving flexibility, posture, balance and strength to name a few. Men often find it aids and improves other sporting interests they have. Give it a try and see for yourself.
